Each year, AFF assembles a group of influential organizations and production companies to sponsor various awards within the Screenplay Competition. We’re proud to include new sponsor Skybound Entertainment and returning sponsor AMC to this year’s lineup which already includes the Writers Guild of America East, Sony Pictures Animation, and Enderby Entertainment.
Sci-Fi Screenplay Award presented by Skybound Entertainment
Skybound Entertainment will serve as the official judge of the Sci-Fi Screenplay Award. The multiplatform entertainment company is led by Robert Kirkman and David Alpert, responsible for such television hits including The Walking Dead, Fear the Walking Dead and Outcast. The company will review the top scripts submitted in each category and will determine the Finalists and Winner and will meet with each of the Finalists during the Conference or over the phone at a later date. The category is open to fantasy, science fiction, horror, surrealism, myth/legend, and fantastical storytelling.
AMC One-Hour Pilot Award
AFF is thrilled to have AMC return as the official sponsor and judge for the One-Hour Pilot Award for the fifth year in a row. The AMC One-Hour Pilot Award is open to any pilot script written in the one-hour format for an original television series. AMC will review the top scripts submitted in the category and will determine the Semifinalists, Finalists, and Winner. Finalists will be given the opportunity to meet with a representative from AMC during this year’s Conference or over the phone at a later date.
The winners of both awards will each receive a prize package including $1,000, reimbursement for airfare (up to $500) and hotel (up to $500) for attendance to the Festival and Conference, and the AFF Bronze Typewriter Award.
