ANNOUNCING AUSTIN FILM FESTIVAL AND YMH STUDIOS NEW PARTNERSHIP
YMH Studios and Austin Film Festival announce the creation of the YMH Studios Comedy Fellowship as part of the 2024 Screenplay Competition.
AUSTIN, TX (March 27, 2024) — Austin Film Festival (AFF) and YMH Studios, producers of the Your Mom’s House podcast, are excited to introduce the YMH Studios Comedy Fellowship, and are on the hunt for the most clever, uproarious, sharp-witted, smart-ass writer capable of revolutionizing comedy with a single stroke of a pen… or keystroke.
Currently, YMH Studios is the home of ten amazing podcasts. Every week, millions of people of all races, religions, numerous genders, varying criminal records, and disgusting sexual fetishes tune in from every continent around the world to share a laugh with Tom, Christina, Bert, Danny, Lauren, Rob, Jamie-Lynn, Josh, Ari, Garth and all of the fascinating, unpredictable, and very funny people who are friends with them.
YMH Studios is currently developing a slate of low-budget comedy feature films built around accessible, rewatchable concepts with a comedy-first approach to storytelling. With this aim, YMH Studios is excited to partner with the Austin Film Festival to offer a fellowship opportunity for a uniquely talented comedy writer.
Regarding the fellowship, YMH Studios founder Tom Segura exclaimed, “We are thrilled to announce our partnership with the Austin Film Festival for the inaugural YMH Studios Comedy Feature Fellowship. Additionally, Ryan P. Hall, the President of YMH Studios, stated, “The Austin Film Festival brings together some of the most talented filmmakers in the world, so Tom and I couldn’t be more excited about adding to that experience with this fellowship.”
Barbara Morgan, the Executive Director of Austin Film Festival, expressed her enthusiasm for this exciting collaboration, stating, “If you believe something called Tik-Tok, no one is funnier than Tom. I don’t know what that is, but everyone in our office says it matters… Jokes aside, we’re thrilled to join forces with YMH Studios in the quest for the next groundbreaking comedic script. As a lover of all things funny, I can’t think of a better partner than Tom, Ryan, and the Your Mom’s House team. Together, we aim to provide a platform for writers to potentially see their work hit the big screen.”
YMH Studios Comedy Fellowship is open to comedy feature scripts constructed with easily understandable and relatable themes, prioritizing a comedic storytelling approach. Scripts must be entered in the comedy feature category to add-on fellowship consideration. The Fellow receives a $1,000 cash prize and a $500 travel allowance to attend the Austin Film Festival. YMH Studios’ executives and development team will take meetings with the Fellow, providing initial feedback and notes on the winning fellowship script.
AFF’s Film & Script Competitions are currently open for submissions. Screenplay Competition deadlines happen on April 19 for the Regular Deadline and May 24 for the Late Deadline.
