Your entry in this year’s Screenplay Competition could be the entry point for a career in writing for film and television. Past competition entrants have signed with major agencies and have had their scripts optioned, acquired, and produced by signatory production companies. Here are just a few of the many writers who turned their screenplay submissions into success stories:
The script Static written by 2016 three-time winner Henry Jones (Drama, Sci-Fi and Enderby Entertainment Awards) was acquired immediately after the Awards Luncheon by Inkubate, the new production company from Max Borenstein (Kong: Skull Island, Godzilla) which focuses on character-driven genre material in film and television.
Josh Barkey, 2016 Comedy Semifinalist, is now repped by AFF judge John Zaozirny of Bellevue Productions.
Ibba Armancas, 2016 AMC One-Hour Pilot Finalist, found representation with Meridian Artists through AFF.
Michael Soll, 2016 Sci-Fi Semifinalist, signed a shopping agreement for his script with an AFF judge.
Jimmy Mosqueda, 2015 Comedy Finalist, got his script Valedictorian optioned and signed with Energy Entertainment immediately after they read it as a judge in the AFF competition.
Wes Brown, 2014 winner of the AMC One-Hour Pilot Award, is now working on AMC’s Fear the Walking Dead as a direct result from winning.
Jared Frieder, 2014 Comedy Winner, had his script Three Months optioned immediately after winning by AFF judge and panelist Oren Uziel.
At the 2014 Festival, AFF presented the world premiere of Dawn Patrol, a film produced from a 2008 Finalist script written by Rachel Long and Brian Pittman that was acquired by Screenplay Competition sponsor Enderby Entertainment. The film was directed by Daniel Petrie, Jr. and stars Scott Eastwood, Rita Wilson, and Jeff Fahey.
Troy Miller, 2013 winner of the Horror Screenplay Award, had his winning script optioned by Frank Darabont’s Darkwoods Productions, the category sponsor.
