We at AFF have a passion for “Easter Eggs!” And since it is Easter weekend, we want to ask you what your favorite Easter Egg is? No — not the plastic ones full of candy, nor the ones you used to dye as a kid, but your favorite Easter Egg from a movie. Never heard of a movie “Easter egg”? In cinema and video game culture, Easter eggs are small details, often hidden in plain sight, to enrich the movie-watching experience. A tool writers and directors use to wink at their audience, and a little gift for discerning viewers who spot them, these messages can appear as veiled artistic references, jokes, messages, and more.
Here are some of our favorites:
Whether it is as obvious as the 2001: A Space Odyssey homage in the opening of Barbie to the hidden hieroglyphs of R2-D2 and C3PO in Raiders of the Lost Ark, it is fun to find the fun secrets filmmakers and writers put in their films. This holiday weekend, AFF wants to hear from you about the best Easter eggs found in your favorite film(s). If you do, you will be registered for a pair of Film Passes to this year’s Festival in October.
