
Austin, TX (June 10, 2020) – National Endowment for the Arts Chairman Mary Anne Carter has approved more than $84 million in grants as part of the Arts Endowment’s second major funding announcement for fiscal year 2020. Included in this announcement is an Art Works award of $15,000 to Austin Film Festival for On Story project. This is one of 1015 grants nationwide that the agency has approved in this category.
“These awards demonstrate the resilience of the arts in America, showcasing not only the creativity of their arts projects but the organizations’ agility in the face of a national health crisis,” said Mary Anne Carter, chairman of the National Endowment for the Arts. “We celebrate organizations like Austin Film Festival for providing opportunities for learning and engagement through the arts in these times.”
Barbara Morgan, Austin Film Festival Executive Director said, “The content captured at the Festival directly reflects its reputation for being an intimate, instructive, and inspirational experience. We couldn’t be more thrilled for this incredible opportunity given by the NEA to help us provide these resources to the general public, free to anyone with an interest in storytelling through film, television, and new media.”
On Story as a whole is an ever-evolving multi-media program, fueled by its ability to draw from a vast Archive and long-term strategic partnerships. When On Story first launched, AFF leveraged many of its relationships for expertise in creation, preservation, and distribution. Now after a decade since the Archive’s inception, AFF continues to consult with a far-reaching consortium of local, national, and international organizations that invest time and resources into On Story’s mission to educate and inspire through the transformative power of storytelling. AFF seeks out partnerships that help advance an understanding of best archival and preservation practices, industry trends, narrative media scholarship, and inclusivity initiatives. These collaborations have laid the groundwork for an array of innovative programming, subsequently driving growth forward and enriching On Story’s reach, impact, and representation.
