Austin Film Festival & Writers Conference to Receive $25,000 Grant from the National Endowment for the Arts
Austin, Texas (January 20, 2023) — Austin Film Festival (AFF) has been approved for a $25,000 Art Works grant to support the AFF’s annual Writers Conference and national distribution of educational resources through On Story. Overall, the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) has approved 1,251 grants totaling $28.38 million in the first round of fiscal year 2023 funding to support arts projects in every state in the nation, as well as the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico.
The Art Works funding category supports projects that focus on public engagement with, and access to, various forms of excellent art across the nation; the creation of art that meets the highest standards of excellence; learning in the arts at all stages of life; and the integration of the arts into the fabric of community life.
“Together, these grants show the NEA’s support nationwide for strengthening our arts and cultural ecosystems, providing equitable opportunities for arts participation and practice, and contributing to the health of our communities and our economy,” said NEA Chair Maria Rosario Jackson, PhD. “I encourage everyone to explore projects such as the Austin Film Festival Writers Conference and On Story and the ways they help provide inspiration, understanding, and opportunities for us to live more artful lives.”
Barbara Morgan, Austin Film Festival Executive Director said, “For 30 years, AFF has embraced writers and sparked ideas through our film screenings, panels, and workshops program. NEA’s support of On Story helps us share rich insight from the entertainment industry’s leading writers, directors, and creatives, providing a unique collection to inspire the next generation of artists.”
This project will support national distribution of educational resources collected at the Austin Film Festival Writers Conference through On Story.
