Hey guys,
My name is Miller Mauldin and I am the Project Manager for Austin Film Festival. Basically, that means that I supervise the comings and goings of the office, i.e. head intern orientation, manage various print jobs, handle general maintenance needs, and about 50 other things. I’ve only been the project manager since the start of this year, but I’ve been with the Festival since 2017, starting as an intern and then acting as the script reading coordinator for the 2019 Festival.
During the past 3 years, I made so many great memories that it’s hard to pick a favorite, so I’ll just choose the first one that comes to mind. As the Script Reading Coordinator, I oversaw the live readings of the semifinalist and finalist scripts from the Screenplay Competition during the Festival. Because of this, I worked closely with a variety of writers and actors, which let’s be honest, can be a bit tasking at times.
However, last year I got the opportunity to jump in and read for Trey Selman’s TV pilot The Cinco at the Hideout Theatre. I usually am more than happy to just stick behind the scenes and would typically pass on an opportunity like this but they were desperate and I had taken a few acting classes in college so I knew I wouldn’t completely embarrass myself and agreed to help out. And, I’m so thankful that I did because it was truly such a great experience. I got to work with some really talented local actors, and we were able to bring this script to life in front of an audience for the first time.
It was so refreshing to immerse myself in a script like that and work with writers and actors in a creative atmosphere because when you spend most of your time coordinating schedules, sending emails, and making phone calls it can be easy to forget how magical and meaningful our work can be.
Hope to see you this year!
