AUSTIN FILM FESTIVAL ANNOUNCES CENTERPIECE AND CLOSING NIGHT FILMS
JAMES L. BROOKS AND KELLY FREMON CRAIG TO ATTEND WITH THE EDGE OF SEVENTEEN; BEN YOUNGER TO CLOSE FESTIVAL WITH BLEED FOR THIS
Austin, TX – September 27, 2016 – Austin Film Festival & Screenwriters Conference (AFF), the premier film festival recognizing the writers’ contributions to film, television, and new media, announced today new additions to its 2016 Film Slate, including its Centerpiece and Closing Night films. For its Centerpiece selection, AFF will feature the coming-of-age dramedy The Edge of Seventeen. Starring Oscar® nominees Hailee Steinfeld and Woody Harrelson, The Edge of Seventeen closed Toronto International Film Festival last week and will play in Austin on Monday October 17th. Producer James L. Brooks (As Good as It Gets, The Simpsons, Terms of Endearment), and writer/director Kelly Fremon Craig will present the film at AFF and take part in a conversation afterwards.
AFF also announced Bleed for This as its Closing Night Film. Starring Miles Teller and Aaron Eckhart, Bleed for This is based on the true story of world champion boxer Vinny Paz. Writer/director Ben Younger will be in attendance and participate in a post-screening discussion.
Other additions to the Festival program include thriller Desierto, directed by Jonás Cuarón (Gravity) and starring Gael Garcia Bernal, and road trip drama Youth in Oregon, starring Frank Langella, Christina Applegate, and Billy Crudup.
