Alyssa Alvarado Reviews Spider-Man: Across the Spiderverse

As a huge fan of Marvel, I’m always ready to say good things and defend the movies if needed, but Spider-Man: Across the Spiderverse deserves all the praise. It was so well-written, I was immediately hooked, not wanting to take my eyes off the screen and miss anything, excited to see what Miles & Gwen have been doing, how they’ve grown, and how they’re going to cross paths again.
Going into the movie I expected Miguel O’Hara [Spider-Man 2099] to be my favorite character (only because I love Oscar Isaac so much), but Hobie Brown [Spider-Punk] was hands down the best character in this film.
The animation of the movie was so insanely good but what really got my attention was the animation for Hobie and how even in his animation he’s going against the norm.
We got to see Miles’ relationship with his dad explored in Into the Spiderverse but him and his mother’s relationship highlighted in the film was very special to see.
Initially, I wasn’t very impressed with Spot as the main villain because he came off as a typical “villain of the week” and assumed Miguel would be taking over that role, but seeing how quickly he evolved throughout the film has me worried about what was going to happen to Miles and his family in the next movie. Especially with Miguel’s “canon events” theory.
The many easter eggs and references that were shown in this movie made it so fun to watch to try and catch everything I can find, and seeing Donald Glover especially made me excited.
This film overwhelmed me with so many emotions it was hard to keep still. The cliffhanger at the end was the biggest surprise, and it was so well done that I wasn’t even mad when the movie ended, but just felt excited of what was to come in the next movie.
