The Austin Film Festival has long been a strong advocate for the fiction podcast as a credible and captivating storytelling medium. With its open and accessible nature, it serves as an excellent platform to showcase your narrative and has a proven track record of paving the way for other production opportunities.
Our inaugural winner from 2017, Kat Sandler, has gone to a flourishing career as not only a podcaster, but as a playwright as well. Regarding her experience at the Festival, she said, “I had such a blast the year I was there; it was incredible to be part of something that was so clearly writer-focused, and to chat with writers at every level of the industry. I had no idea there was anything like that; winning the inaugural Fiction Podcast competition was just the cherry on top! I went on to work with the judges of our year, Zack Akers and Skip Bronkie (Limetown), and love creating content in the fiction podcast sphere today!“
In this competition, we are seeking ongoing, original, serialized stories. Writers are invited to submit up to three episodes ranging from 3 to 30 pages in length, while ensuring that the total content of the story does not exceed 90 pages. Additionally, writers should provide a series outline, outlining the events that will unfold in the remaining episodes of the series.
Crafting a Fiction Podcast script doesn’t mean starting from scratch. If you already have a play, teleplay, or screenplay, you’re already well on your way! Take the time to adapt it for this exciting and growing medium. Whether you choose to submit to our competition or not, preparing your script for this space will undoubtedly bolster your career prospects.
Submit your script today before the Extended Deadline NOW July 7th at 11:59 PM CT!
