EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT OUR NEW FILM VENUES
Keep reading for essential transit, parking information, and arrival recommendations for attending films at our new venues on the University of Texas campus.
This year, we are thrilled to expand our venue footprint to two new venues: the newly renovated Hogg Memorial Auditorium and the Texas Union Theater. Whether you are traveling from out of town or joining us locally, see below for what to know, before you go, and how to make the most out of your AFF experience.
Both venues sit right in the heart of the vibrant University of Texas at Austin main campus, located just a short walk from each other.
Hogg Memorial Auditorium (HMA) – 2300 Whitis Ave (Just north of the UT Tower).
The Texas Union Theater (UNB) – 2308 Whitis Ave (2nd Floor of the Texas Union Building).
Rideshare Drop-Off (Uber/Lyft):
For the closest drop-off, instruct your driver to pull up to the curb along 24th Street & Whitis Avenue. From there, it is a very short, flat walk to the Texas Union building and Hogg Auditorium.
Capital Metro Bus & Rapid Transit:
The city of Austin’s public transit, CapMetro, covers the festival’s core area including theatres, conference sites, hotels and most venues on the circuit.
The Route: Hop on downtown and ride it straight up Guadalupe street. Take either the 801 (towards Tech Ridge) or 803 (towards Domain) northbound.
The Stop: De-board at the UT West Mall Station. From there, it is a mostly shaded, flat, 3-minute walk past the UT Co-Op directly to the theaters.
Use the Trip Planner at capmetro.org or download the free Transit app for real-time arrivals and turn-by-turn routing from your hotel/panel location to your next screening.
Planning to drive? We recommend these university-operated garages:
San Antonio Garage (SAG): 2420 San Antonio St. (Closest option—just a 4-minute walk to both theaters).
27th Street Garage (TSG): 109 W. 27th St. (Great access point if arriving from North Austin).
Co-Op Parking Garage: 2214 San Antonio St. (Conveniently located right behind the University Co-Op shopping center).
Please see austinfilmfestival.com for our most updated venue information.

If you’re a UT student, faculty, or staff member, every single CapMetro service is completely free with your physical UT photo ID: buses, UT Shuttles, MetroRail, and the Night Owl late-night routes. Just swipe and go. (Note: virtual IDs are not accepted, so bring the physical card.)
What It Costs Everyone Else
A single local bus ride is $1.25, or grab a day pass for $2.50 and ride unlimited for 24 hours. You can tap a contactless credit or debit card right at the farebox. No cash or pre-purchased pass needed.
The Routes You’ll Want Use
Route 1 (N. Lamar / S. Congress) — Your most useful route. It runs straight through downtown and hits the Congress Avenue corridor, putting you steps from the State Theatre, Omni Hotel, Stephen F. Austin Royal Sonesta, St. David’s Church, Central Presbyterian, and most downtown hotels.
Route 4 (7th Street) — Runs directly along 7th Street, making it the best option for reaching St. David’s Episcopal Church and east side hotels like the Hampton Inn.
Route 20 (Riverside) — Best for attendees staying near Town Lake. Connects South Austin, the Riverside corridor, and UT campus to downtown.
Rapid 801 & Rapid 803 — High-frequency bus rapid transit running every 10–15 minutes, 7 days a week. Rapid 801 connects Mueller to Slaughter Lane via downtown. Rapid 803 connects the Burnet Road corridor to South Lamar, passing through UT campus and downtown. Both are your best bet for frequent cross-town trips.
MetroRail Red Line — Commuter rail running 32 miles from Leander into downtown Austin. The MLK Station is three blocks from the Bullock Texas State History Museum and Texas Spirit Theatre, and connects to UT campus via connector bus.
UT Shuttles (Routes 640, 642, and others) — Circulators serving the UT campus and surrounding areas. Essential for reaching Hogg Auditorium and the Union Theater.
Night Owl Service (Midnight – 3 AM) — Late screening? After-party? CapMetro runs Night Owl routes Monday through Saturday nights from 6th Street out to local neighborhoods.
