Screenwriter. Blogger. Actress. Television writer. Author. These are just a few of the words that describe Pamela Ribon, one of Variety’s 10 Screenwriters to watch. The funny former Austinite studied acting at the University of Texas and joined a comedy troupe immediately after graduating. Ribon is most well known for her blog, which she has been writing since the late 1990s. From writing about shows on Television Without Pity to writing show content on Mind of Mencia, Hot Properties, and Samantha Who?, Ribon has a lot of experience in the world of TV writing. Here are some more reasons to love her.
Her Blog Led to #FeministHackerBarbie
When Ribon encountered the surprisingly sexist book Barbie: I Can Be a Computer Engineer, she promptly responded with an essay entitled “Barbie Fucks It Up Again”. The post went viral, and her enraged followers spurred Mattel to revamp its marketing and products. Game Developer Barbie became “Career of the Year” as a result.

She Wrote a Comic for Rick and Morty
Oni Press publishes a comic book adaptation of the popular TV series, perfect for when you’re waiting for the return of Mr. Poopy Butthole.
She Writes for Disney
In addition to writing Smurfs: The Lost Village for Sony Animation Pictures, Ribon wrote for Disney’s newest film Moana. She is currently developing a sequel to Wreck-It Ralph for Disney Animation.
She Loves Roller Derby
Roller derby has been an essential component of Ribon’s life for several years. It has helped her cope with grief and stress, and now it’s in a comic book entitled SLAM!
She’s Written a Lot of Love Letters
Ribon’s novel Notes to Boys compiles all the sappy, dramatic, and sometimes erotic letters she wrote to various boys throughout high school. Her writing was prolific even then – one letter that she wrote and sent to one boy was over 200 pages long.
