Austin Film Festival is making our annual trip to New York City!
On Tuesday, April 5th, join AFF and the Writers Guild of America, East for A Conversation with Jim Taylor & Tamara Jenkins.
Join Academy Award-nominated screenwriters Jim Taylor (Election, About Schmidt, Sideways, Juliet, Naked) and Tamara Jenkins (The Savages, Private Life, Slums of Beverley Hills, Juliet, Naked) for a discussion on the writing process behind their classic films and advice on adding depth, distinction, and truth to your stories.
JIM TAYLOR: Born and raised in the Pacific Northwest, Jim is the long-time collaborator of writer/director Alexander Payne. Among the screenplays they have co-authored are ELECTION, ABOUT SCHMIDT, SIDEWAYS and DOWNSIZING. For their work on these scripts they have been honored with two Golden Globes, two Writers Guild Awards and one Academy Award.
TAMARA JENKINS: Tamara is the writer and director of the films PRIVATE LIFE, THE SAVAGES and SLUMS OF BEVERLY HILLS as well as several award winning shorts. Her films have screened at the New York Film Festival, the Telluride Film Festival, Cannes and Sundance. Among the honors she has received are an Academy Award nomination, an Independent Spirit Award, a Los Angeles Film Critics prize and a Guggenheim Fellowship.
Tamara and Jim both attended NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts where they received their MFAs. Occasionally they work as a writing team and their most recent collaboration was an adaptation of the Nick Hornby novel, JULIET, NAKED.
