What are the biggest lessons you’ve learned?
The effectiveness. There is always a way to be more direct and grab the reader / viewer without wasting time. And torture is a safe method to grow a character.
What has been your hardest scene to write?
Kidnapping Inc. This is my current project. We have been working on it for 5 years now. An action comedy with a serious background. The challenge is to be as funny as it is deep. I don’t know if we managed to meet the challenge but during the last script-edition, we began to listen to the characters with more disposition. They were allowed to live their lives and the scenes rewritten almost on their own.
What do you feel was your turning point?
I was at a comedy school in Montreal and that experience has definitely changed the way I create and tell.
What are you working on right now?
Kidnapping Inc. an action comedy and Zoukoutap which is a Haitian radio soap opera with 78 episodes.
What are your favorite movies?
Affreux, sales et méchants (Etore Scola), Reservoir Dogs, Pulp Fiction, Raging Bull, Spiderman 2, Her, Les tontons flingueurs (Georges Lautner), Shrek, Social Network, Taxi driver, The wolf of Wall Street, Get Out, Aladdin, Annie Hall, Manhattan.
Who are your favorite screenwriters?
Aaron Sorkin, Woody Allen, Quentin Tarentino, Terry Rossio, Ted Elliott, Michel Audiard, Spike Jonze.
What is your most Memorable AFF Moment?
The pitch night was definitely one of the most exciting moments I have ever had in Austin, but without flattery it’s the best festival I’ve been to as a professional for the past 5 years.
