Time for Love (Kolej Na Milosc)
PREMIERES OCTOBER 24, 3:15 PM CDT
I feel like train movies deserve to be their own genre of film because just like with life, you never quite know what you’re going to get when you embark on a cinematic adventure that takes place on a train. Time For Love, from Colombian-born, Poland-based filmmaker Miguel Velez offers a fresh new addition to the plethora of spectacular locomotive tales and true to form, from start to finish you never know what’s coming next. The film is filled with engaging and interesting characters, all departing to lands unknown for Christmas so you can expect carols and tinsel but with a thrilling undercurrent. At its core though, this is a romantic comedy and it sure does it provide. Though much of the film is in other languages, it really excels at visual comedy and making light of what may otherwise be seen as potentially scary situations. The film’s protagonist (Marcin Franc), who boards the train chasing love, finds himself at the helm of the train’s operations and finds he might not be the most cut out for the job. Of course, he’s helped tremendously by a very charming trolley girl (Marta Sutor) both of whom, in their own way, find not necessarily what they were looking for, but exactly what they needed. From weird old men with baby-sized coffins to random outbreaks of song and dance, the film is a journey quite unlike what you may have experienced before. Be sure to check out the film at this year’s festival! You’ll find more than what you bargained for, that’s for sure and you’ll have a great time doing it!
