Writing is a difficult field to break into. Hollywood is a difficult field to break into.
When you combine the two together, that’s when a daunting task begins to look impossible. That’s where we come in. For 27 years, Austin Film Festival has strived to create a place where screenwriters, filmmakers, and storytellers of all different mediums could meet, network, and support one another.
As a 501c3 non-profit dedicated to helping storytellers, Austin Film Festival works to not only provide programming for writers, but a home. We’ve all seen the memes of writers being lonely, having multiple cats, locking themselves in seclusion until they can create one masterpiece, but that isn’t the reality for most. Writing is community. To get better, you need notes, support, inspiration, and know-how. In our 27 years, we have found writers to be most generous with their time and knowledge. They’re invested in helping the next generation, and we know they are, because year after year, they come to Austin to help spread that knowledge to our attendees.
We’ve heard about the magical moments that happen in Austin. We know that they occur because you, our attendees, tell us about them! Your stories keep us going, keep us working harder to create an event specifically for you. This is why we do what we do: to help you succeed. That’s why we don’t believe in velvet ropes or invisble walls. We believe in hand-shakes, conversations, and opportunities. We believe in connection-building. We believe in the potential stories that you have yet to commit to paper.
You have a story to tell and you have a vision. We want to help you focus in on it in 2020. We want you to achieve your goals. Come to Austin and we’ll hopefully help you see a bit more clearly.
