One of the highlights for Second Rounders each year is our exclusive Roundtable Session where we put you directly in front of various agents, managers, producers, and established writers in an intimate setting. We’ll notify you before the sign-up opens. Second Rounders with a Producers Badge will have preference and first access when signing up. You must have a badge to reserve your place!
Here’s the full lowdown:
SESSION 1: FRIDAY, OCTOBER 27, 10:45AM-12:45PM / SESSION 2: FRIDAY, OCTOBER 27, 3:15-4:30PM / SESSION 3: SATURDAY, OCTOBER 28, 2:45-4:00PM
Roundtable: The Art, Craft, and Business of Film and Television
Get in-depth answers to your questions about the art, craft, and business of screenwriting. This session offers Second Rounders from the Screenplay Competition exclusive access to writers, executives, studio reps, agents, managers, producers, and attorneys in an informal setting. Take advantage of this invaluable opportunity to ask burning questions like: What’s the best way to overcome writer’s block? Or risk a taking a new direction after established success? How do I find representation? Are studios buying spec scripts? What are emerging trends in the industry?
How It Works:
Show up for your Roundtable Session and you will be seated at a table with a small group of registrants and a veteran screenwriter, executive, or producer. The rest is up to you. After 25 minutes, panelists will get up and move to another table. This happens twice, so you will get to meet with at least 3 industry professionals during each session. These are not pitch sessions, but rather casual table meetings where you are encouraged to ask specific questions about the business of screenwriting and filmmaking. You are encouraged to come with questions in mind and business cards in hand.
PLEASE NOTE: This roundtable does require advance sign-up and you must have already purchased a Producers or Conference Badge to be on the list. Producers Badge holders will receive priority to sign-up on Thursday, September 28 and Conference Badge holders will be able to sign-up on Friday, September 29. Specific information about how to sign-up will be available that week. As a Second Rounder, you can only sign up for ONE of the three sessions. If you sign up and do not yet have your badge or the correct badge level for that day, you’ll be given until the end of business day to either purchase or upgrade your badge or forfeit your spot in the sign-up list.
If you do not make it on to any of the three sign ups, a wait list will be started. To add your name to the wait list, please email email@example.com. Once the Festival starts, there will be a “standby” line at each roundtable session that will be first-come first-serve.
For each of the six “lunches”, a group of lucky Second Rounders will be randomly selected to have lunch in an intimate setting with our panelists (TBD). Past industry lunch hosts have included Shane Black, Nicole Perlman, Phil Rosenthal, and Adam Kolbrenner from Madhouse Entertainment.
Screenwriters Happy Hour presented by ScreenCraft
Second Rounders and above are invited to attend this invite-only party with representatives from ScreenCraft along with select panelists and judges from the Competition.
Second Rounder Exclusive Panel Sessions
A full track of panels programmed specifically for Second Rounders including workshops on how to find representation, demystifying the development process, and how successful alumni from the Competition made the most of their placement. Here are just a few of the panels we have planned this year:
The First 10 Pages
A workshop presented by producer Lindsay Doran (Sense and Sensibility, Stranger Than Fiction) where she will read the first 10 pages from pre-selected Second Rounder scripts and workshop them in front of a live audience of Second Rounders and above.
The One-Hour Drama
Second Rounders will be randomly selected to participate in this interactive opportunity which simulates a mock TV writers room in front of an audience of Second Rounders and above.
PLEASE NOTE: All Second Rounder panel sessions are very popular and subject to panelist availability and may be changed or canceled at any time. We recommend arriving to the panel sessions AT LEAST 20 minutes early (and even earlier for more popular panels) to secure your spot in the room.
