We asked our interns what they thought about working at AFF. Here are their thoughts:
“I’ve never worked at a place like Austin Film Festival before. AFF has a laid back atmosphere with a high-energy staff. There is a contagious passion that spreads throughout the whole office from full-time and contract staff to interns and volunteers. Everyone here is dedicated to improving the artistic culture of Austin, and to helping establish Austin as one of the new greatest cities in the film industry. Working at AFF provides you with an opportunity to make a real impact on the city, and your work helps promote Austin’s uniqueness to a global audience.” – Alex Vardel; Executive Department Intern
“Austin Film Festival is a place that celebrates the art of filmmaking, while making it very fun. It is a hands on learning camp, so it is quite interactive, but the teachers consistently encourage the students to learn the craft. I really enjoyed how AFF invited industry professionals as well. It was really awesome and inspiring to hear successful writers come in to talk to the kids. AFF is a place for kids to learn, but it includes the Austin community in the process. I think that’s really unique. They also have delicious snacks and movies during break. The camp is a combination of hard work, fun, and team building. I’m always so impressed with what the kids make. AFF’s summer camp shows how creative kids can be and I think that is really important.” – Summer Film Camp Intern
“I knew Austin Film Festival was the place I wanted to work as soon as I walked in the door for my interview. I saw a laid back environment with really friendly people with the sound of a movie playing in the next room. But, most importantly, I was greeted by a dog.” – Elizabeth Kurzweg; Marketing Intern
“Looking for cool dogs, righteous filmmaking advocacy and an environment full of the coolest film folk? Get yourself some knowledge, experience, and pups at AFF!” – Zach Lyons; Film Department Intern
“Interning at AFF, I got to be hands on in the coordination of one of Austin’s most exciting festivals” – Taylor Parks; Project Management Intern
“In a life as turbulent as that which we inhabit, we must remember to live passionately and appreciate the small beauties that surround us. For me, the Austin Film Festival is an embodiment of that ideal.” – Sam Stanich; Development Intern
